Britain’s best-loved television comedy Dad’s Army may be set for a return to the screens, it was revealed this week – raising hopes that original locations in Norfolk may once again be featured.

The movie would see Bill Nighy as Sgt Wilson and Toby Jones as Capt Mainwaring.

In the 1970s, the sitcom was often filmed in Thetford Forest (including the end titles). A statue of Arthur Lowe as Mainwaring can be seen in Thetford, as can Cpl Jones’ famous butcher’s van at the town’s Dad’s Army Museum.

Thetford Town Council mayor Stuart Wright said: “We’ve got the van so hopefully they will contact us if they want to use it.

“Any publicity for the museum is very welcome and it would be brilliant if they wanted to use the area.”
