A second vote on whether the Lynn incinerator should be axed or not will take place next month, it was confirmed yesterday.

An extraordinary general meeting of Norfolk County Council will take place in Norwich on Monday, April 7, to consider whether the Saddlebow scheme should continue or be scrapped in the wake of the continuing delay in a planning decision.

The council’s recommendation will then go before a meeting of the council’s cabinet, who will make the final decision, to be held on the same day.

But developers Cory Wheelabrator have announced they have secured an additional £51 million of funding from the UK Green Investment Bank, a government-funded initiative which invests in sustainable projects.

Bank bosses say they have invested because of the scheme’s power generation potential and the diversion of waste from landfill.

But objectors claim it raises serious questions about the bank’s assessments of the project.
