“Hideous” advertising signs on a rural roundabout have led to a clash between West Norfolk planning committee and Norfolk County Council.
The committee was yesterday asked to approve the signs by an advertising company, Marketing Force, appointed by the county council to manage a roundabout sponsorship scheme on its behalf.
The company has already sited three signs, including the county council’s name at the bottom, on the roundabout at the junction of the A149 and Lynn Road, Dersingham.
Dersingham councillor Tony Bubb said: “They are completely out of character.”
Zipha Christopher said: “The signs are hideous and we don’t want them.”
Members also voiced concern on road safety grounds but heard no objection had been made by Norfolk Highways after consultation with independent safety experts.
John Loveless proposed refusing consent for the signs due to the sensitivity of the site, which was carried by 11-3.
