A sprinkling of Disney magic was added to the festive excitement as Swaffham’s Christmas lights were switched on at the weekend.

Mickey and Minnie Mouse, complete with costumes provided by Arnie’s Attic of Dereham, flicked the switch on Sunday afternoon during a packed day of activities including a funfair, Christmas market and even a Swaffham Bake-Off.

Town clerk Richard Bishop said the reaction to the Disney characters had been a highlight of the celebrations.

“The smiles on the youngsters’ faces just made the day,” he said.

Business leaders and town council officials had joined forces to organise the day’s events which drew large crowds. “It was about giving people enough to do during the day,” said Mr Bishop
