A 90-year-old man died two months after a hip operation at Lynn’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital an inquest heard on Monday last week
Senior coroner Jacqueline Lake heard that Kenneth Hazelwood, of Downham Grange care home, Downham, was admitted to hospital on January 9 with a fractured femur which possibly occurred when he fell 13 days previously.
He underwent a routine operation to repair the fracture on January 10 and was discharged on January 21.
However, on January 30 he was readmitted to the hospital with an infected hip wound. He was discharged on February 8 and he died on March 4.
A post-mortem examination found Mr Hazelwood died from septicaemia.
Mrs Lake concluded that Mr Hazelwood’s death had been accidental.
