A flag was raised over Downham Town hall to mark the start of Armed Forces week.
Downham town councillor Vera Botham hoisted the flag on Monday morning, watched by Billie Wells and his two dogs along with Falklands veteran Brian Wallis.
Mr Wallis, who was stationed at RAF Marham for many years, suffered severe burns to his hands and feet following a doodle bug raid in London during the Second World War. He was only one of nine children treated by Archibald McIndoe at his pioneering burns unit in East Grinsted, Kent.
Downham’s Royal British Legion branch has also put together an Armed Forces Day celebration in the town hall tomorrow.
The event aims to promote the work undertaken by the Legion for past and current servicemen along with their families.
A number of charities will be setting up stalls in the town hall from 10am and 3pm plus refreshments will be served.
