Village games sports co-ordinator Frances Rayner and Aaron Roberts, Active Norfolk’s rural sports development officer, spoke to Year 10 and 11 pupils at Downham Academy on Thursday last week.

The pair wanted to find out what youngsters knew about the games and how they could make it more appealing to the pupils.

Frances said: “This was an important exercise because it enabled us to gather ideas and views from probably the largest community in Downham and find out how we can work corroboratively to make the games a further success.

“Aaron and I were really impressed with the ideas that came forward and learned a lot from their opinions and will really value these in helping us to develop this year’s event.

“They suggested that we promote the event during PE sessions and work with PE staff at the school to develop their athletic skills so that they came to the games with a real competitive edge.Further work can be done here and we are really excited about the possibilities going forward.”
