Staff at Downham Leisure Centre have been praised for saving the life of a customer who had suffered a cardiac arrest.
The team, which has a defibrillator on site, resuscitated the man, who is in his 50s, yesterday afternoon (Thursday, February 6).
The Magpas Helimedix were called to the centre in Bexwell Road at 1.35pm and anaesthetised the man before flying him to Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge. On arrival he was in a stable but serious condition.
Magpas doctor Ali Tompkins said: “This man would not have survived, if it wasn’t for the quick actions of staff on the premises. This incident highlights how important first aid skills really are. We wish our patient a swift recovery”.
The helicopter team were pilot Richard Eastwood and crew member Steve Hunwicks.
An ambulance crew and ambulance officer were also present.
