Trans-Atlantic ties were strengthened in Swaffham when the town’s Lions club welcomed the head of their twin group in America to the annual Charter night celebrations.

More than 90 people attended the dinner dance event, which was held at the town’s Assembly Rooms on Saturday night.

Guests, who were welcomed by group president Simon Fowler, included the mayor of Swaffham, Anne Thorp, the regional governor of Lions clubs in East Anglia, Paul Martin, and Robert Pollard, the president of the Concord Lions club, the Swaffham club’s twin club in North Carolina.

During the evening, Mr Martin presented the Melvyn Jones award, named in memory of the founder of Lions International, to the club’s press officer, Dennis Tallon, in recognition of his long service to the club.

He also presented certificates to the four charter members who remain members of the club.
