A crane was brought on to Lynn’s quayside on Wednesday to help maintain and repair flood gates.
West Norfolk Council called in a group of contractors onto King’s Staithe Square to replace a motor on the Purfleet flood gates. Contractors are used from time to time to open a hatch within the gates to allow fresh water into the channel, which prevents it from stagnating.
Rubbish such as shopping trollies, bikes and cones are also removed from the channel. Workmen tried to open the hatch in October but a stop lock snapped and damaged the motor, which was removed in November.
