Organisers of the popular Hilgay Raft Race are hoping to duplicate the success of last year’s event and are now accepting entries for teams.
The event organisers have announced they will be raising money for the Stroke Association when teams take to the water on Sunday, July 13.
A record entry of 22 rafts raced along the River Wissey in July last year while more than 1,000 spectators were throwing flour bombs from the banks.
One of the race organisers, Ali Dent, is now accepting entries into this year’s event, which costs £40 for a team of four.
He said: “Last year’s event was one of the best with 22 teams which is more than double the amount of previous years.”
Mr Dent will also be supporting the association with a book sale in Hilgay Village Hall on Sunday, May, 18. He is appealing for donations of books, records and cds.
He has also organised a psychic evening in the village hall on Saturday, March 13 for Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. Contact Mr Dent on 01366 387686 for more information.
