The Fakenham branch of the Royal British Legion is to be honoured with the Freedom of the Town at the annual assembly of the town meeting on March 25.
The decision was agreed at the town council’s February meeting and it is the highest honour a town can bestow although the significance is largely ceremonial.
Janet Holdom, the town mayor, said: “In essence, this will celebrate the close relationship which has developed between this civic body and the Legion. It’s now our responsibility to decide how we take things forward.”
A number of initiatives are being explored including an update of the war memorial in the market square with names added of local service personnel killed on operations since 1948.
