Fakenham Academy Concert Band and Big Band have just returned from a seven-day tour of Tuscany during which they gave three concerts in Passignano, Pienza and Florence. The 43 pupils and five staff spent the week involved in a number of activities including visiting a water park, a boat trip across Lake Trasimeno and a guided tour of Florence.
Head of Music Sylvia Newton said: “As always our students performed brilliantly in all the concerts and were a credit to themselves and the school. We had so many compliments from tourists from around the world who were visiting Italy – it was fantastic. This is the ninth tour I have organised for the Fakenham Academy bands, and as always it has been a delight to do so as there is so much educational value to be gleaned from trips such as this that cannot be learned in a classroom.
“This year I am particularly pleased that one of my ex-students, Charlie Long, has shared the conducting with me. It is lovely to see former students progress and become great music teachers of the future.”
