A thriving bowls club celebrated its 40th anniversary in the company of two founder members, now in their 90s.

Ron Pond, 91, still plays socially at Lynn Bowls Club and Jack Gardner, 93, is a regular spectator.

Mavis Coates said: “We play social bowls every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon and regularly have around 30 to 40 people there and this year the lady’s team has reformed after ten years.”

The club, based in Beulah Street, Gaywood, used its ‘Ruby Day’ celebration as an opportunity to raise £159 through a raffle. The club is saving to buy a defibrillator – a piece of equipment that can save someone’s life if they suffer a cardiac arrest.

Mrs Coates said: “We have many older members and thought this would be a good idea.”
