A group of women are keen to show that baking and sewing can be cool – by forming a new Women’s Institute.
Hayley Kurt, 33, has formed the new WI following a conversations with friends which highlighted passions for common interests.
The new group will be holding its inaugural meeting in the Providence Street Centre, on Monday.
Hayley said: “I’ve got a group of friends who I have known for years, and recently discovered that we’ve got shared interests like baking, sewing and knitting that we never talked about because we didn’t think it was cool! Finding out that so many of us did these things ‘on the quiet,’ seemed like the perfect opportunity to be honest about our passions and start a W.I. to celebrate them! I’m really excited that we’ll all be able to get together to learn new things and enjoy hobbies, while spending time over a glass of wine!”
Members of the group will be able to learn new things and develop existing skills in a fun environment. Each month there will be a different speaker with ideas for sessions so far include cocktail making, cake decorating and flower arranging.
Hayley said: “I have been overwhelmed with the support that the idea has had, and we’re really looking forward to seeing members arrive on the first night! We’re keen to work with local businesses and organisations that could be speakers.”
