Pioneering Anglicans and Methodists at Gaywood have celebrated four decades of sharing their resources for mission and ministry.
Former St Faith’s Church clergy and Gaywood Methodist Ministers returned for the Ruby anniversary on Sunday.
Following a joint communion, about 90 people enjoyed a lunch, screening of archive films featuring events from past years and a traditional English-style afternoon tea in the Gaywood Church Rooms, the first phase of which was opened in 1974. There was a wonderful, friendly atmosphere as current church members chatted with former clergy, ministers and past members who had returned for the special anniversary day.
Everyone had been welcomed by St Faith’s Rector, Canon Beryl Wood and Methodist Minister, the Rev Andrew Maguire.
In the special Order of Service those present were told: “Today we celebrate not only the sharing of buildings, but also a sharing of dreams and hopes for greater mutual support and recognition of the gifts of our churches.”
The Venerable Gerald Phizackerley preached at the morning service and the Rev Tony Windsor preached during an evening Songs of Praise service.
