A Gaywood couple are celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary.
Fred Ellis’s blond curly hair turned the head of future wife Hazel and yesterday they celebrated their blue sapphire wedding anniversary.
The couple, who live in Gayton Road, grew up in nearby streets in Lynn but did not cross paths until after Fred had left the Army and Hazel was working in Lynn’s Theatre Royal cinema. She said: “He took my eye because of his lovely blond curly hair and tan.”
The couple tied the knot in All Saints’ Church on June 10, 1949, after a short engagement. Fred went onto work for Clitheroe Bearings for 46 years while Hazel became a housewife. The couple had two children George, 63, of Lynn, and Wendy 52, of Lincoln. They have four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The couple plan to celebrate their big anniversary with family meals.
Hazel said the secret of a happy marriage is down to “give and take” and added: “We have had a very happy marriage.”
She gave this advice to newlyweds: “Be content and work together.”
