The future of Bawsey Pits beauty spot where double tragedy struck last year has been thrown open to public consultation.

Site owners Sibelco want Lynn News readers to tell them how they want to see the site used to allow it be enjoyed safely in the future.

Although the park itself has remained open, due to planning conditions that require it, the car park has been closed since two people drowned there last summer.

Swimming is banned at the site, but people were back in the water the day after the deaths of Ryan Pettengell, 41, of Lynn, and 16-year-old Umar Balogun.

Gary Stringer, Sibelco’s resources director, said: “There needs to be a long term viable solution for Bawsey and we have an open mind as to what that might be.

“It’s a much loved facility but sadly one that has suffered from abuse and flouting of the safety rules.

“It’s vital to bear in mind then that if improvements are called for there might need to be some form of commercial activity at Bawsey to fund them.

“The most important thing at this stage is to gauge public opinion and we hope as many people as possible will complete the questionnaire.

“By working together hopefully we can avoid further tragedies and our thoughts remain with those affected by last summer’s awful incidents.”

Readers can complete the questionnaire below or at out website: lynnnews.co.uk

If you wish to be added to Sibelcos circulation list for direct feedback, complete your contact details. Otherwise questionnaires can be completed anonymously, providing that a postcode is supplied.

The closing date for completed questionnaires to reach Sibelco is Wednesday, April 30.
