Two Lynn gardeners have been named Local Food Heroes 2013 for the East of England.
Lally Lee and Herbie Knights were awarded a trophy by the High Sheriff of Norfolk, Lady Sarah Leicester, for their work and commitment to the King’s Lynn Community Allotment in The Walks. The award was presented after people were invited to vote online for their Local Food Hero.
The Master Gardener project has 74 trained volunteers across the county, who tend to the allotment and visit schools to promote the growing of vegetables.
Gabbie Joyce, coordinator of the Norfolk Master Gardener programme, said: “Lally and Herbie had such enthusiasm and drive when the allotment was started from scratch, and they have both nurtured the ethos of self-sustainability. I am delighted that food growing is developing in King’s Lynn.” MLNF13PT08160
