A pair of sibling runners have met staff at Lynn’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital to hand over the money they raised by completing the mini Gear run in the town.

Holly and Harry Lawrence, aged eight and six and pictured above centre, were among hundreds of youngsters who took part in the 1.2 mile run around the town centre in May.

But they had a particularly special reason to take part as they were raising money for the hospital’s Rudham ward, whose staff cared for their baby brother Max, now 11 months, second from right, in December last year.

Their mum, Jemma, above right, said: “It was a bit of a shock to them as they had no experience of hospital before.

“It was about how lucky they are and how there are poorly children who have to spend time in hospital.”

Mrs Lawrence also paid tribute to the ward’s staff, of whom she said: “I can’t praise them enough.”

Between them, Holly and Harry, who attend the Downham Preparatory School at Stow Bardolph, raised more than £350 for the ward, which they hope will be used to buy new toys for patients.

Staff nurse Chris Harrison, left, and bank auxiliary nurse Bridey Manning-Coe are pictured with the family. Also pictured is Janet Lanchbury, third from right.
