Hundreds of children have already signed up to be holiday bookworms at Downham’s library, but it is still not too late to join in.
The library in Priory Road is again participating in the county-wide summer reading challenge, which is aimed at all children aged between 4 and 11.
The challenge, which is free to join, encourages children to sign up and read six books on any subject from their local library, by September 4.
And, to help the older children with their quest, local author Jason Cobley will be at the library next Wednesday at 11am to read from his new book, The Legend of Tom Hickathrift.
For the younger audience, storytime for the under 8s is held every Thursday at 10.30am, and there are plenty more events planned to keep children entertained this summer.
So far, more than 500 children have signed up to take part in the challenge, and those who complete it will be presented with a certificate and a medal in a ceremony at the library on September 7.
