Police and traders in a West Norfolk town are joining forces to crack down on shoplifters ahead of the festive season.
Shopwatch is being launched in Hunstanton after a similar scheme in Lynn has proved to be successful.
Police have joined forces with Sainsbury, Tesco and Londis to curb thefts.
Police share information about known and prolific shoplifters while traders sign a contract to allow pictures of offenders to be shared.
Shopwatch will be running during the festive period and could be rolled out to other traders in the new year if it is successful.
Insp Debbie Gunnill said: “Similar schemes launched elsewhere in the county have proved successful in reducing the number of incidents and we’re pleased to have support from three stores and help us tackle those responsible for shoplifting.
“Posters have been created and have been put up inside the stores to raise awareness that shoplifting will not be tolerated.
“Representatives from the shops additionally meet with officers from the safer neighbourhood team on a regular basis to get security advice, an update of any important information relating to retail crime at that time, and discuss any problems they may have been experiencing.”
