Tom Bennett, aged 15, from Hunstanton is the youngest member of West Norfolk Minds 10k race team training for this year’s Grand East Anglia Run on Sunday in Lynn and has already raised more than £200 in sponsorship.
Tom has secured a work experience placement this summer with the mental health charity and after visiting their centres and projects and seeing first hand what a difference they can make decided to support them when entering the race.
Zena Penty, volunteer co-ordinator at West Norfolk Mind said: “Tom, at such a young age is a real inspiration and I’m glad he has already been able to see what valuable support we provide throughout West Norfolk. We also have a team of eight friends who all went to KES sixth form running for us with the team name of ‘A Case of the Runs’, which is quite amusing! They have chosen to support West Norfolk Mind to acknowledge the high number of people affected by mental health problems these days and again one of their team members completed a work experience placement with us. With little training, in a moment of madness my teams enthusiasm inspired me to join them running the race so I have also entered - although I am only likely to see the backs! Any of the above can be sponsored by visiting www.justgiving.co.uk and searching for their name.”
