Criticism of MPs’ involvement in the decision to withdraw government cash for the incinerator has been “way over the top”, Lynn’s MP has claimed.
Last week’s decision by Defra to withhold the £169 million of waste infrastructure credits triggered a furious response from some Conservative county councillors.
West Norfolk’s MPs even being accused of treachery by some within their own party because of their role in the decision announced by ministers last Friday.
But North West Norfolk MP Henry Bellingham, who had expressed his delight at the move when it was announced, said: “Those comments are way over the top. I think when they look back at this, they’ll realise their comments were out of place.”
