One of the coast’s most popular watering holes is in with a great chance as being named Best Family Pub of the Year in a prestigious competition.
The Jolly Sailors in Main Road, Brancaster Staithe, has been named as joint winner of the category in the East Midlands and East Anglia region in the BT Sport Great British Pub Awards 2013.
The Jolly Sailors will now go forward to the national final, held at the Hilton Hotel, Park Lane, London, on Thursday September 12.
The awards are organised by leading pub industry magazine, the Publican’s Morning Advertiser.
Rob Willock, editor, said, says: “The award recognises the pub that has best capitalised on the family market in the past 12 months.
“Seventy-five per cent of customers at The Jolly Sailors are families and it is a worthy winner of the award.”
The pub has a kid’s play area with a rock climbing wall, climbing frame, slide and fireman’s pole.
There is a kids’ menu (children can create their own pizza with their favourite toppings) and an ice cream hut in the garden.
The pub is run by Heather Tidd and is part of Anglian Country Inns.
The final will be compered by actor and comedian Greg Davies.
The Jolly Sailors will go head to head with five other regional winners for the UK title and also have the opportunity to compete for the overall title of Great British family pub of the year.
