Through the magic of modern technology, Lilley Godfrey was able to celebrate her 90th birthday with her daughter – who was thousands of miles away.

Many family members went along to Amberley Hall Care Home in Gaywood to join Lilley for her big day and the party hosted by the care home.

But unfortunately her daughter Olive was unable to attend as she lives in Washington, USA.

However, Amberley Hall staff organised for Olive to call her mother via Skype as a surprise. Lilley was thrilled to be able to see her beloved daughter on her big day and spent time chatting away about all that had been going on and her plans for the rest of her birthday.

The home laid on a wonderful celebration for Lilley and her guests and presented her with a special cake to mark the occasion.

Hospitality services manager Keith Barnes said: “It was wonderful to be able to allow Olive to be with us on her mother’s special day. The smile of Lilley’s face just said it all. I am so glad she enjoyed her big day.”
