The West Lynn ferry made good use of new visitor pontoons at Lynn’s South Quay during high winds last week.
Ferry operator Steve Kingston said: “On Thursday and Friday nights for the last half hour, we ran the last two or three boats from the pontoons because we considered it was safer than putting out boards for passengers to walk across.”
Boards had been increasingly used this year due to a build up of sand in the river attributed to the lack of rain. Mr Kingston said passengers appreciated using the pontoon and it proved a good back-up.
He added: “We are still hoping to get our amphibious vehicle, which will totally cure the problem, this side of Christmas.”
