Six people have been convicted, and another cleared, of involvement in the abduction and assault of a couple suspected of killing and stealing from an elderly woman.

A jury at Norwich Crown Court today, Monday February 17, completed its deliberations in the case, which related to the death of Gertrude Frankham in December 2012.

Following a six-week trial, Vanessa Frankham, 48, of Wisbech Road, Walpole St Andrew, was found guilty of kidnap, blackmail and assault occasioning grievous bodily harm, but cleared of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. She had previously admitted false imprisonment.

Violet Chilton, 57, of Rands Terrace, Dades Lane, St John’s Fen End, was found guilty of false imprisonment and assault occasioning grievous bodily harm. but cleared of blackmail and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Thomas Chilton, 29, Rands Terrace, Dades Lane, St John’s Fen End, was convicted of two counts of kidnap and two counts of false imprisonment, but cleared of wounding and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Edward Dolan jnr, 18, of Flower Farm Bungalow, Walpole, was found guilty of kidnap and false imprisonment, but cleared of wounding.

Diane Evans, 18, of Cherry Road, Wisbech, was found guilty of false imprisonment, while a 17-year-old from the Wisbech area, who cannot be named, was convicted of kidnap and false imprisonment, but cleared of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

A seventh defendant, 27-year-old Jason Chilton Rands Terrace, Dades Lane, St John’s Fen End, was cleared of kidnap and false imprisonment against him. He had previously been found not guilty on two further charges on the direction of the judge, Stephen Holt.

Five other people have previously admitted their roles in the case.

They include Laura Ann Dolan, 37, of Two Sisters Close, Sutton Bridge, who admitted kidnap, two counts of false imprisonment and two counts of unlawful wounding.

Wayne Dolan, 35, of Walpole Marsh, Walpole St Andrew, admitted false imprisonment and unlawful wounding.

Edward Dolan snr, 38, of Walpole Marsh, Walpole St Andrew, admitted kidnap, two counts of false imprisonment and wounding with intent.

Sheila Conboy, 55, of Walpole Marsh, Walpole St Andrew, admitted two counts of false imprisonment and two counts of unlawful wounding.

And Valerie Harris, 47, of Thistlebrook, London, admitted false imprisonment and unlawful wounding. The case against a 13th person, Natalie Cooper, 22, of Sutton Bridge, had earlier been dropped.

A date for sentencing is expected to be finalised this week.
