A series of sports leadership courses will be held at Downham’s youth centre early in the new year, officials have announced.
Residents are being encouraged to sign up for the programmes, which have been financed by a grant from the Big Lottery Fund.
Centre manager Ali Rigby, who is organising the courses alongside Elliot Warren and Phillip Martin, said: “Participants don’t need to be an athlete or brilliant at football to be a sports leader, just have an enthusiasm to learn, be willing to volunteer and ideally have an interest in leadership.”
A Level One sports leadership course, for people aged 13 and over, will begin at the centre on January 14, with a level two community sports leadership course scheduled to start on February 7.
A young leader programme, which is aimed at youngsters aged nine or over is also planned for a date which has yet to be fixed. The courses are free to take part in.
