A man will appear in court next month after he was charged in connection with a stand-off with police outside a flat.

Stephen Fordham, 43, of Poppyfields, West Lynn, has been conditionally bailed to appear before Lynn magistrates on January 8, where he will face allegations of criminal damage, threatening behaviour and conveying false information.

The three charges relate to an incident at a flat on the Poppyfields estate on Friday afternoon, which ended after a four-hour stand-off with police.

A Norfolk Police spokesman said that officers had been called to the area at around 1pm following reports that a man, who was said to be in a distressed state, was making threats and refusing to leave the property.

Armed police response units and specially trained negotiators were sent to the scene and the area was cordoned off while the incident was resolved.

However, police stressed that no-one else was inside the property during the disturbance.

They also insisted there was no wider threat to the safety of the public during the incident.
