Organisers of an exclusive fundraising tour of the home and art collection of Britain’s first Prime Minister are hoping to raise thousands for the West Norfolk Mayor’s charity.
Tickets are now on sale for An Evening Event at Houghton Revisited, which is being held on Wednesday, September 25, between 6pm and 8.30pm, in aid of the Prince’s Trust.
The trust, which supports disadvantaged young people, is one of two causes being supported during the current year in office of borough mayor, Elizabeth Watson.
The exhibition, which has had its run at the hall extended until late November, features a host of masterpieces which were owned by Sir Robert Walpole before they were sold to Catherine the Great of Russia. The collection is currently on loan to the hall from the Hermitage museum in Russia.
The evening will begin with a drinks reception in the hall’s picture gallery before the exhibition’s curator, Dr Thierry Morel, talks about the display.
The talk will be followed by a tour of the exhibition, which includes masterpieces by artists including Rubens, Rembrandt, Velazquez, Van Dyck, Poussin and Murillo.
Places at the event are priced at £50 and organisers have suggested an optional £20 donation to the charity.
Tickets are available from the civic office at the Lynn Town Hall or by phoning 01553 762124. All cheques should be made payable to The Mayor’s Charity.
