It was all Greek to pupils of Middleton Primary School when ancient history was brought to life through masks, models and myths.
Year 5 and 6 children have been studying the Ancient Greeks as part of a literacy and history project.
They decided to become Greeks for the day, starting with a morning of making shields, spears, Medusa masks and models of Greek gods.
At lunchtime, they tucked into a banquet of figs, dates, pomegranates, bread, cheese and honey cake.
The afternoon saw the pupils become athletes competing in the first Olympic Games in 776BC. At the end of the day, the victors were crowned with laurel wreaths.
Headteacher Claire Bunton said: “The children are still talking about it. The class teacher really captured their enthusiasm for the topic and brought their learning to life.”
