A notorious traffic bottleneck ground to a halt at the weekend with motorists reporting having to wait up to an hour in queues.

Customers who visited businesses on Lynn’s Hardwick Retail Park reported traffic problems “worse than at Christmas.”

A Norfolk Police spokeswoman said: “There was no one incident which caused Saturday’s problems.

“It was just a large volume of traffic in the area which caused some frustration.”

Police were called when queues built up for motorists trying to exit the estate onto Hardwick Road at around 3.20pm on Saturday, but customers said there were problems all weekend.

Ben Toms, sales assistant at Bensons for Beds, said: We weren’t too bad at this end but it was causing havoc at the other end of the retail park.

“One member of our staff went across to Boots and had to leaver her car there all day.

“You couldn’t get out and around once you were in there.”

Norfolk County Council confirmed that it was not carrying out any work in the area and no traffic light priorities had been changed.

The council did not have any direct reports of the issues.

On the Lynn News facebook page, Kim Bell, said: “Quick trip to Mothercare resulted in siting in the car park for 45 minutes!”

Tracie Jayne Claxton said: “Popped to Boots to pick up tablets, Hubby stayed in queue. I got them and came out again, he had moved up two car places so popped into Subway with the kids got us all Subs and he’d moved another three places. An hour later we were out of traffic.”

Rachel Forrest said: “Was worse than Christmas time! Stuck in traffic for over an hour.”

Melanie Heeley hit the traffic on Sunday.

She said: “Getting out of carpark near argos about half an hour to 45 minutes.”
