Money is starting to pour into an appeal to transform a former fire station into a Downham museum.
Downham and District Heritage Society needs to raise £650,000 to refurbish Priory Road site to house the town’s history.
Staff at the Original Factory Shop in Downham have made £3,388.21 for the society with a variety of activities including fancy dress, community raffle and sponsored events.
A table top sale will be held at the old fire station on Sunday to raise money for the project when a further large donation will be received.
Stalls selling bric-a-brac and books will be set up from 9am to noon.
Earlier this year the society received a £386,300 Lottery grant to go towards the costs of the project but are also applying for further grants.
Members have also set themselves the target of raising £12,000.
The annual meeting of the heritage society will be held in the Town Hall Assembly Room on Wednesday, April 16, at 7.30pm.
