King’s Lynn Museum is in running for top award
The attraction is on a shortlist of 20 for the Family Friendly Museums award, which was unveiled at the weekend.
The award, which is run by Kids in Museums and the Telegraph newspaper, and recognises venues for their friendliness to family parties.
David Collis, county councillor for the Lynn North and Central division, said: “Lynn Museum is a wonderful community museum as well as a key tourist attraction with staff and volunteers making it an attractive and welcoming place to visit.”
He added: “They should all feel very proud, and I wish them well in making further progress.”
Paul Smyth, the county council’s communities committee chairman, said news of the museum’s nomination was “fantastic” and showed the area was a good one to live in or to visit.
And area museums’ committee chairman, and West Norfolk Council cabinet member, Elizabeth Nockolds, added: “The team at Lynn Museum has been working hard to offer events, trails and other activities for children and families this year.
“Museum staff are delighted that this work to encourage family visits has been recognised in this way.”
The shortlisted museums, which overcame competition from around 800 nominated venues, are now set to be to a final list of six, which will then be visited. The overall winner will be announced in September.
