A new Outreach post office has opened in North Creake village hall, two days after its predecessor shut.
Operating each Wednesday and Friday from 12.45pm - 4.15pm it replaces the village sub- post office, run since 1997 by Barbara Masters who, having decided to retire, had closed her own sub-branch.
Her last official act was to officially open the new post office with the borough councillor for the Burnhams ward, Miss Sam Sandell, by cutting a ribbon and posting three letters.
Behind the counter were sub-post mistress Carol Starkey and Teresa Bircham who, together with Trudy Coker from the Wells-next-the-Sea post office, will run the new facility each week having moved on from running another new Outreach sub-post office each morning on the same day at Syderstone.
Miss Sandell was delighted the Post Office had retained its links with the village.
She said: “We need to keep our village alive and if the post office had closed residents would have had no-where to get their pensions, withdraw cash, collect prescriptions, get their car taxed and benefit from the wide range of services that the post office provides.”
She added that for many years North Creake’s sub-post office had been an important hub not only for the village but for customers from South Creake and a number of other surrounding villages.
