RUMOURS that a new Tesco store will be coming to Heacham have continued this week but the supermarket giant has remained tight-lipped over its plans for the village.
The former Wheatsheaf pub is believed to have been earmarked for a Tesco Express store which could open as early as May next year.
Speculation about the move comes after the pub closed in September and builders have been on site to clear the building's interior.
Heacham Parish Council has written to Tesco for further details of its plans but has yet to receive a response and the Lynn News has also been unable to find out any further information.
Parish clerk Philippa Sewell said: "As far as we are aware they intend to use the existing building, subject to alterations, but we do not know what they are.
"The local businesses for which Tesco would be direct opposition have expressed concerns and there are issues of highway safety at that junction for some residents. But it is very difficult to say what our concerns are until we see the proposals."
