Lynn’s historic Mart did not damage the new surfacing of the town’s Tuesday Market Place, West Norfolk Council leaders have insisted.

The issue was raised during Thursday’s full council meeting in response to a question from Labour deputy leader Andy Tyler.

Mr Tyler stressed he was not criticising the fair but said concerns had been raised with him by residents.

But Elizabeth Nockolds, the authority’s cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: “There has been a special inspection and I can happily tell you that no surface has been spoilt.”

She said the Showmen’s Guild had signed an agreement to cover the surface before setting up the fair.

The meeting was also told that the borough council had proposed dates for next year’s Mart and were awaiting a response from the showmen.
