Around 200 new jobs could be created if Lynn firm Bespak is given the green light to expand.
Bespak has submitted plans to construct two new production and packaging facilities on land off the North Lynn industrial estate.
The expansion plan is believed to be connected with a major deal signed by the company earlier this year to produce a nicotine inhalation device with Nicoventures.
A planning application was lodged with West Norfolk Council to put up an assembly cell on a brownfield site while the Mylan building could be constructed on scrubland.
The application’s design and access statement says: “Over time, the facilities will create around 200 new staff positions.”
The assembly cell is proposed to be 3,673 sq metres while the Mylan will be 6,747 sq metres.
The application also states that Bespak has taken on a lease for a 1.25 acre parcel of land to provide an additional 234 car park spaces.
But new and existing employees will be encouraged to cycle to work.
The design and access statement says: “To further encourage use of the scheme, separate male and female shower or changing facilities will be provided in the new assembly building with drying facilities for any wet clothing.”
The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Authority had issued a licence for the Nicoventures plan.
The company says that this device differs from electronic cigarettes as it is regulated.
Bespak’s parent company, Consort Medical, states in its interim management statement: “This is a significant achievement, underlining Bespak’s substantial regulatory competence and expertise.
“Construction contracts have now been awarded for the new manufacturing facility in Lynn, and for the refit of the Milton Keynes facility which will provide expanded capacity to produce the contracted volumes under our commercial supply agreement with Nicoventures.”
The news of the expansion has been greeted by the leader of West Norfolk Council, Nick Daubney.
He said: “This is fantastic news for Lynn.
“When this was first discussed, I was so pleased that this international company had selected Lynn to expand its operations. I think this shows great confidence in the local production management and workforce. It will bring big opportunities for us.”
