Building a £4.5 million link road to and from a Lynn sports centre would trigger around £60 million of housing development in the area, council leaders say.

A committee of councillors backed the idea of preparing the scheme for the route between Edward Benefer Way and Lynnsport at a meeting on Wednesday evening.

The meeting was told that around 600 homes could be built on land in the Marsh Lane and Lynnsport areas, but that was dependent on the road being built.

Alistair Beales, the council’s cabinet member for regeneration, admitted the authority was taking a risk, but added: “If this goes ahead, the major housing scheme is worth £60-0dd million.”
