The rain couldn’t dampen spirits at Pott Row during the weekend as a new sports facility, which officials hope will be the first of several boosts to facilities in the community.
A new dedicated area for playing the game of petanque, which is known as a terrain, was opened by West Norfolk’s mayor, Barry Ayres, on Saturday – pictured above.
Representatives of the West Norfolk Petanque League also gave a demonstration of the sport, which is a version of the French game of boules.
The facility is the fruit of a fundraising campaign by the Hudson Fen Leisure charity, who say their main long-term ambition is to raise money for a new village hall. Their next project is to improve the rest of the ground so it can be used for football and other sports.
Secretary Claire Cook said: “We would like members of our community, of all ages, to use Hudson Fen and we hope it will be a popular facility that will aid us in raising our profile and awareness of our goals.”
