Crowds gathered as a discount chain store has opened its new shop in Lynn’s Hardwick Industrial Estate on Saturday morning.
Customers were seen queuing early to look around Poundland’s new store in Pierpoint Retail Park.
The chain, which also has a store in the town’s Vancouver Quarter, has created 25 new jobs at the larger site, which is the former Comet store.
Poundland’s trading director Richard Lancaster, is thrilled with the response to the new store.
He said: “We are delighted to bring our unique proposition to Pierpoint Retail Park.
“Poundland offers amazing value on top branded products to over 5 million customers every week.
“The £1 price hasn’t changed since we opened our first store 24 years ago.”
The new store is a boost for the area after the site has stood empty for more than a year. Electrical chain Comet shut up shop in December 2012 after running into financial difficulties.
