More than 150 homes and businesses in Holme are without power after a cable had been blown down by the wind.

Firefighters cordoned off a site in Westgate earlier today (Monday, December 30) after a high voltage cable was brought down in the high winds which have battered the area.

UK Power Networks engineers are currently working to restore power to customers.

A spokesman said: “Power was interrupted to 521 customers at about 9.45am today and was returned to normal for the majority of customers by about 10.40am. A further number of customers would have seen a brief interruption to their supplies of less than two minutes when the initial fault occurred.

“We would like to reassure the remaining 156 customers that we are working to restore their electricity as soon as we can. We realise how difficult it can be to be without power and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
