Praise for produce at North Pickenham

THE second North Pickenham Village Show at the weekend attracted more entries than last year's event but Wendy Bush again emerged the overall winner and retained the cup.

Sheila Mathias, one of the organising team, estimated that more than 200 people visited the show in St Andrew's Church over Saturday and Sunday, and said 450 was raised for church funds.

The show had classes for vegetables, fruit, flowers, bakery and preserves, as well as art, craft and photography, and Mrs Mathias, of Danesmead, Hillside in the village, said the judges commented on the higher standard of entries this year.

"We had judges come from other villages and award first, second and third places, and there were prizes for each section," she said.

"There was even a children's section in the show, with amusing categories like the tallest weed and a creature made of fruit or vegetables. It was a good community event."

Necton rector, the Rev Stephen Thorp, presented the prizes on Sunday afternoon and an auction of the show produce followed.
