Measures designed to revitalise town centres through rate relief for retailers are proposed to be adopted in West Norfolk.
Under the Government-backed scheme, shops, restaurants, retailers, wine bars and pubs, with a rateable value of less than £50,000, will get £1,000 off their business rates.
In addition, businesses that occupy retail premises that were previously empty for more than a year will get a 50 per cent reduction in business rates for 18 months.
West Norfolk Council’s cabinet is recommended to adopt the rate relief policies when it meets on April 1.
The schemes have been devised by Government to revitalise high streets in light of the rise in internet shopping.
It is also proposed to give 100 per cent business rate and council tax relief, for up to three months, to homes and business that are affected by flooding.
