Safety tips will be on the curriculum for Fakenham Junior School pupils as the Crucial Crew returns to North Norfolk this week.
In all, around 900 schoolchildren from the area are set to learn vital safety lessons at Gresham School in Holt.
It is co-ordinated by Norfolk County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service, Crucial Crew. There will be ten-minute interactive sessions to teach vital safety tips.
The event, the fifth Crucial Crew to be held in North Norfolk and the 41st since the Service started, features theatre-style, interactive scenarios mocking up hazards to which children may be exposed in everyday life.
Year 6 pupils (10/11 year olds) are placed in situations which simulate potential danger, such as a bedroom fire. The experiences seek, within a controlled environment, to raise awareness and provide practical and memorable advice on what to do.
The agencies taking part and the scenarios are:
Norfolk Constabulary, personal safety; Norfolk County Council public protection team, household emergency planning; Magdalen Group Jigsaw Project, internet safety; H.M. Coastguard, seaside safety; National Grid, gas safety; St John Ambulance, first aid; The Matthew Project, safety smoking, alcohol and drugs; Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service, fire safety in the home; PACT (Partnership Against Crime Taskforce), safety in the street and when travelling; UK Power Networks, electrical safety.
Dan Roper, the Cabinet Member for Public Protection at Norfolk County Council, said: “Following this event 35,670 young people will have attended Crucial Crew since we started in 2003.
That is a fantastic number which means that thousands of children have had the opportunity to learn and pass on simple, but vital, safety messages in a fun and interactive way.
“Crucial Crew continues to play an important part in disseminating safety messages and in these challenging economic times we continue to rely heavily on volunteers and agencies working in partnership.”
A total of 21 schools from North Norfolk will be attending including Fakenham Junior, Hindringham Primary, West Raynham Primary and Wells Next The Sea Primary
