Pupils swapped uniforms for pyjamas and text books for teddies to take part in a Read for Bed reading event at Lynn’s Fairstead Primary School.
Visitors from the community were invited into school to read short stories to the children and more than 100 parents joined in the all-day literacy experience.
Two authors also spent a morning at the school. Author and storyteller James Campbell and children’s science and nature writer Steve Parker received a warm welcome from the 330 pupils
Headteacher Hazel Spinks said the event was held as part of National Children’s Book Week.
She said: “We wanted to raise the profile of reading and reading at home. We involved the local community to demonstrate to pupils that everyone can enjoy reading.”
The bedtime theme even extended to lunchtime when “pigs in blankets” and teddy bear biscuits were served. Mrs Spinks said: “We had the best attendance from parents we have ever had. Everyone involved had a fabulous time.”
