A community project to transform a closed pub has been boosted by a £189,950 Government grant.
Members of Shouldham’s Save Our King’s Arms campaign finally received the keys to the pub on January 10 after months of hardwork in raising £150,000 by selling shares.
Now the project is among 17 schemes across the country to receive a share of the £5.5 million Department of Communities and Local Government community assets fund.
The money will go towards the repairs and refurbishment of the building.
Minister for Communities Stephen Williams said: “The helping hand we are offering will help these schemes get off the ground and provide inspiration for other communities to follow suit.”
The committee hopes to be serving meals and drinks to villagers in April.
Members are still finalising plans for the site but they could be providing a meals service for the primary school and a village cafe.
