A dislocated hip didn’t stop committed fundraiser Gary Quinlan from completing a sponsored walk to raise £4,800 for Macmillan Cancer Relief.

Mr Quinlan, of South Wootton, has walked, cycled, parachuted and skydived to raise almost £80,000 for the charity over the last 14 years.

He said: “I lost my parents through cancer. My dad used to do fundraising so I took it over.”

Mr Quinlan had planned a long distance walk, but after dislocating his hip while skiing he was under doctors’ orders to abstain from any form of exercise. But, to ensure the charity didn’t miss out on the sponsorship money Mr Quinlan completed a ‘token’ 10 mile walk along part of the North Norfolk Coastal path.

He said: “I’d like to say a big thank you to all the people who continue to support me. Without their support I wouldn’t be able to raise the funds.”

Howard Moore, chairman of the Lynn fundraising committee for Macmillan said: “This money will stay in Norfolk and will be used to support cancer needs in the county.

“In these hard times for fundraising the efforts and support of people like Gary are extremely welcome.”
