The legendary battle between St George and the dragon was brought to life for Downham schoolchildren on Wednesday.
Nearly 200 children and adults watched and cheered as St George chased the dragon around the town square before slaying the beast.
The annual Downham St George’s Day festivities in the town square were again a great success.
Youngsters from Hillcrest Primary School entertained the crowds with two songs before the dragon, played by town councillor Frank Daymond, appeared behind the choir.
He was then chased by St George, who was played by Ron Botham, around the square as youngsters cheered.
Keystone Estate Agents also supported the event by providing flags for the children.
Town mayor David Sharman said: “We had a fantastic turn-out and the children did beautiful job, especially as it was their first day back from the Easter holidays. I really enjoyed it and it was great fun.”
